Scouts that come to Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch to work on Climbing Merit Badge will enjoy a highlight experience like no where else in America! Older Scouts who work on this merit badge are encouraged to spend the entire week completing this High Adventure activity. Only at Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch can Scouts do this:boy, scout, summer, camp, climbing, rapel, rapelling, bsa, colorado

  1. Combine the challenge of climbing and rappelling on the dikes (some 100 ft high) surrounding the camp with a summit assault to East Spanish Peak to complete the Climbing Merit Badge
  2. Learn skills and techniques needed to successfully manage the challenges offered by the difficult tasks presented by the mountains surrounding SPSR.
  3. Work with well-trained and experienced staff who is eager to see Scouts accomplish personal achievement equal to nothing they have ever attempted.

Here is the suggested itinerary Scouts will follow after check-in on Sunday:
bulletMeet to discuss goals and ability level of the group on Sunday, and develop a weeklong action plan.
bulletSpend all day on Monday getting acquainted with the group and the staff ranger assigned, then learn and practice mountain climbing techniques as a team for the rest of the day.
bulletOn Tuesday, rappel down the nearby dikes assisted by the staff ranger and working as a team.
bulletOn Wednesday, complete a summit assault of the East Spanish Peak!
bulletOn Thursday, plan and carry out an expedition to a nearby area to mountain climb and rappel.
bulletFinally, on Friday, choose between more rappelling, or a trip to the Miner's Cabin near the top of the East Spanish Peak.
bulletAs a bonus, receive a limited edition High Adventure patch for your collection. You will truly Get High at Spanish Peaks!
